Poor Dear Esme was originally serialised in The Crusoe Mag, Vol. 1, No.1-6. Further Esme stories were published in the magazine and later magazines into the 1930s.

Thomas Henry illustrated the series which adds to the disappointment that the drawings were not included in the hardback edition.
