Notes

First UK edition was published by Newnes in January 1936 at 7/6 (TECB, 1936).

Octavo, 7.5’ x 5’, pp255 with no further details available but it probable that Newnes issued with gilt titles to boards.

First UK cheap edition was published by Newnes in November 1936 at 2/6.

Newnes probably reprinted for several years from an unchanged textblock.

The 2/6 cheap edition shown is in mint green boards with black titles to spine only. Octavo, pp255, 7.5’ x 5.0’. From other titles listed on dustjacket this issue is around November 1937. One front free endpaper and one rear free endpaper. ‘Copyright, 1935’ to rear of title page indicates first US edition.

The dustjacket is illustrated by Caney. No illustrations to text.

Newnes only published one Tony Adams title. It is highly likely that this is a pseudonym for Frank C. Robertson who was a prolific US author particularly in the Western genre.

A contemporary reference in The Bookseller (July 1936) lists this title as by Robert Crane. Newnes published 17 hardback Westerns by Robert Crane in the 1930s presumably as Collins were already the UK publishers for his titles written as Frank C. Robertson.
